Refeeds and diet breaks on a cut - do they actually help?
Six weeks into a cut and considering a refeed or diet break. Do they actually help, or is it just an excuse to eat more? Want to know if there's real benefit before I do it.
Re: Refeeds and diet breaks on a cut - do they actually help?
They genuinely help, both physically and mentally. A diet break (a week at maintenance) or periodic refeed days can restore glycogen, give a mental breather, and ease the diet fatigue that builds over a long cut. They make adherence easier, which is what actually drives results.

So it's not just psychological?

Both. Refilling glycogen improves training and mood, and the mental reset keeps you adhering. The fat loss happens over the whole timeline - a sensible break doesn't undo your progress.

After 6+ hard weeks in a deficit, a diet break is a great idea - it can blunt some of the adaptive slowdown and let you come back to the deficit fresher. Just keep it controlled at maintenance, not an all-out blowout.

Key is doing it deliberately - planned maintenance calories, still hitting protein, not a free-for-all binge. Done right it's a tool. Done as 'I'll eat whatever for a week' it can wipe out your deficit. Structure matters.

Controlled break at maintenance, keep protein up, treat it as a planned tool not a binge. That makes sense and I clearly need the reset. Thanks all.
