Nutrition's Role in Accelerated Healing and Recovery
Hi all! We often talk about exercises and physio, but how much attention do you give to **nutrition** during your recovery? I’ve heard it plays a massive role in tissue repair, inflammation reduction, and overall energy levels. What specific foods or supplements have you found beneficial, or what dietary advice have your healthcare providers given you?
Re: Nutrition's Role in Accelerated Healing and Recovery
For sure! My PT stressed **protein intake** immediately. I upped my lean meats, eggs, and added a protein shake daily. Also, lots of fruits and veggies for **Vitamin C** and antioxidants to help with inflammation. I noticed a difference in how I felt energy-wise.
Re: Nutrition's Role in Accelerated Healing and Recovery
My doctor actually recommended a good quality **fish oil** for the omega-3s to help with inflammation. And staying super **hydrated**! Water is so underrated but essential for nutrient transport and cellular function, especially when you're trying to heal.
Re: Nutrition's Role in Accelerated Healing and Recovery
As a powerlifter, protein is always high, but after my injury, I focused even more on **collagen supplements** and bone broth, thinking about joint and tissue repair. Also, ensuring enough **Vitamin D and Calcium** since my injury was bone-related. It felt like I was eating for recovery, not just performance.
Re: Nutrition's Role in Accelerated Healing and Recovery
I tried to cut down on processed foods and sugars, as they can promote inflammation. Focused on whole, unprocessed foods. Also, a good multi-vitamin just to cover all bases, but primarily focused on **real food sources**.
Re: Nutrition's Role in Accelerated Healing and Recovery
It sounds like a common thread is increased **protein and anti-inflammatory foods**. That's good to hear. Has anyone tried specific protocols like a more anti-inflammatory diet, or focused heavily on certain micronutrients?
Re: Nutrition's Role in Accelerated Healing and Recovery
I tried to incorporate more turmeric and ginger into my cooking – natural anti-inflammatories. Not sure if it made a huge difference on its own, but combined with everything else, it felt like I was giving my body the best chance.
Re: Nutrition's Role in Accelerated Healing and Recovery
I focused on foods rich in zinc, like nuts and seeds, as it's crucial for immune function and wound healing. Also, dark leafy greens for Vitamin K, which is important for bone health. It's amazing how many nutrients are involved!
Re: Nutrition's Role in Accelerated Healing and Recovery
For a while, I stuck to a stricter paleo-style diet to reduce any potential inflammatory triggers. No grains, no dairy. It felt good, and I definitely felt less joint stiffness overall. Hard to say if it sped up healing directly, but it certainly didn't hurt.
Re: Nutrition's Role in Accelerated Healing and Recovery
My physio recommended a higher caloric intake initially, especially since I was less active but my body was working hard to repair itself. So, ensuring enough *quality* calories was also a focus, not just macro ratios.
