While it plays a role in gut health and immune function, and levels can drop after intense exercise, supplementing glutamine usually offers little benefit for healthy, well-fed individuals. The body can produce enough, and you get it from protein-rich foods. For specific populations (e.g., burn victims, critically ill), it shows promise.
